Best Base Locations (all biomes)

Key Points for the Best Base Location

Below are some points to consider for any base:

1.The Wormhole is Nearby

Having wormholes close by makes it easier to access various locations.
We recommend a location where the wormhole entrance and exit are as far apart as possible, allowing easy access to different parts of the world via the wormhole.

If there is a wormhole near your base, it can serve as a destination for the winter boss, Deerclops, to prevent your base from being destroyed.

2.There is a Pond Nearby

When farming, you will need water, so if there is a pond near your base, it will be easy and convenient to fill your watering can.

*Please note that in spring, the spring boss Moose Goose may spawn in the pond. If the pond is too close to your base, you may be in danger.

3.The Entrance to the Cave is Close

If you plan to enter caves to collect lightbulbs for charging your mining hat or to travel to and from your underground base, having a cave entrance near your base will be convenient.

Bats will appear in the cave, so be careful not to get too close as they can be troublesome to deal with.

4.The Sea is Nearby

If you build a base near the sea, you'll be able to fish and set up fishing nets. Additionally, as the game progresses, being close to the sea will be beneficial in many ways, such as when you want to plant mangrove seedlings.

Where Not to Build Your Base

1.There is a Walrus Camp Nearby

We do not recommend building near walrus camps, which are round marks on the ground, as enemy mobs called walruses will appear and attack you in the winter.

2.The Spider Web is Nearby

If spider webs are too close, they will grow and spawn Warrior Spiders and Spider Queens, which will be difficult to eliminate.

3.The Pigpen is Too Close

Having a pigpen nearby is convenient as the pigs will help with tasks like cutting down trees, but you need to be careful as the pigs will become hostile on full moon nights.

Best Base Locations Biomes

Best Biome: Birchnut Forest

The Birchnut Forest is a recommended base location for beginners. As its name suggests, it is filled with birchnut trees, and when roasted, birchnuts become a valuable food source in the early stages of the game.

There are also pig houses, so you can get pigs to help you with cutting down trees and other tasks. It's also easy to get pigskin, which is useful for crafting. Additionally, there may be a Pig King in the Birchnut Forest, where you can exchange toys, meat, eggs, and other items for gold nuggets, making it easy to secure the gold you always need.

If you are finding it difficult to survive the winter or secure food, we recommend setting up a base in the Birchnut Forest.

Since non-human characters (Webber, Wurt, Wortox) are hostile to the pigs, it is not recommended to build a base here if you are playing as these characters.

Best Biome: Desert (Oasis Area)

Deserts are recommended base locations for intermediate to advanced players.

There are water areas called oases in the desert (ponds only appear in summer). In the summer, sandstorms occur in the desert making it difficult to see nearby areas, but you can get by without any problems by making special goggles.

Areas around oases do not spontaneously combust in summer, so they are recommended when building large bases.

There are two types of deserts: deserts where dragonflies are located and deserts with oases, so be careful when looking for them.

Best Biome: Forest Area

This is the largest biome in DST. We also recommend this one.

The forest biome is full of trees, grass, branches, and berries, which are useful for collecting materials. There are many creatures such as spiders, pigs, and frogs, making it easy to obtain food.

When building your base, be careful not to build it too close to the Walrus Camp or Frog Pond.

Non-Recommended Base Locations

Non-Recommended Biome: Swamp

DST Tentacle 触手 ドンスタ 沼地

The swamp is a purple ground biome.
This biome is full of dangerous enemy mobs such as tentacles, merms, spiders, and mosquitoes, and it has few materials, so it's not suitable for building a base.

Non-Recommended Biome: Rocky Area

This is a biome with a lot of stone.
It is not suitable for building a base, as there are dangerous Tallbirds, falling meteorites, and no materials other than stone.

Non-Recommended Biome: Savannah

This area has lush grass, Beefalo, and rabbits. While you can get meat by trapping rabbits, it takes time and is inefficient.

Additionally, from winter to spring, Beefalo are in their breeding season and will attack if you get too close, making this biome also not recommended for building a base.
